Sustainability is at the heart of all design, and the development at Kingway Business Park is no exception.Robert Hitchins Limited understands that a sustainable concept is more than just the bricks and mortar, and this development embraces sustainability at a community level with housing, open space and community facilities all provided around the business park.
The sustainable concept is then followed through to the building level, to maximise the passive design opportunities within the scheme. Generally the concept for buildings is to incorporate any large elements of glazing on the north façade, to maximise the natural light available whilst minimising the solar gain and glare. The glazing to the south elevation can then be minimised. Natural ventilation and thermal mass is being pursued, to reduce summertime over heating, reduce the energy costs and minimise the carbon footprint.
Renewable technologies are being considered to complement the passive design. They are being considered on a life cycle cost basis to ensure that they reduce the carbon emissions, whilst providing a payback in this commercial environment.
